The Last... Breakfast?

Last Wednesday, Ann Ferris enjoyed her "last breakfast" (of doughnuts, waffles and strawberries... AFC's "special request" menu) before going to the orthodontist for braces. In the midst of the celebration, Sarah Wynn declared it her 4th birthday (again). Check out the #4 candle in her do-nut! :0)  I'll post AFC with braces next (yes, this is the teaser).

31-30

Okay, so I didn't think Ole Miss could pull it off. But today they defeated #4 Florida in Gainesville. Unbelievable! Schaeffer and I were in Oxford six years ago for the tearing down of the goal posts when the Rebels upset the then #6 Gators at home during the Eli Era. We even went down on the field and brought home some end zone turf after that game. So, never say never. Miracles do happen. :0)

Anniversary of Accident

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Sarah Wynn's accident, when she was hit in the face (under the right eye) with a bat at a church picnic and had to be rushed to the hospital for stitches. We only had been in Atlanta for a week at the time and it was my first "official" Sunday at Perimeter. It makes me a bit ill to think about it even as I write this—thinking about the fresh, bleeding gash in my 3-year-old daughter's face... But it could have been worse (she easily could have been blinded). And since it is part of God's sovereign plan for her and us, we can accept it and be thankful that our trials, pain and suffering is not without purpose. After all, the cross teaches us that God uses the deepest suffering to accomplish the greatest good. To be honest, it's hard to really believe that in the fog. I had lots of questions last year. But God is good and gracious, and can handle our questions and doubts. Sometimes I find myself praying that familiar, if even strained prayer, "Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief..."

Also, today Ann Ferris got her braces! I'll be posting pictures shortly. :0)

Licking the Bowl

No, this post is not about our dog. It is about Sarah Wynn taking matters into her own hands after Kristy made brownies last night. Sarah Wynn couldn't wait until the brownies were out of the oven, and plunged her head into the mixing bowl in order to lick the remaining batter. I only wish I'd gotten to the bowl first.

Soccer, Tennis and SEC Football

Schaeffer's soccer team, the Red Rangers, played a great game against a tough team. This week we made huge strides forward, and Schaeffer scored a GREAT penalty kick—a strong, well placed kick. Way to go, Little Buddy!

After the game, the family ate lunch at home, then the girls went out shopping while the guys played tennis.

The remainder of the day was spent outside with Gracie (our dog) and inside watching college football.

Wednesday-Friday Update

This Wednesday our family travelled up to Dahlonega to meet Cory and Tommy Jones, along with their two girls and Tommy's cousin, Matt, at Caruso's on the square to talk about the possibility of church planting in D'ga. Things are leaning heavily in the direction. He is the head football coach at the county high school, Matt is an assistant coach, and Cory teaches at a local elementary school.

Last night after soccer practice, Kristy and I met with Andrea and John Blount at Starbucks to catch up a bit and to discuss their fifth daughter's baptism (Bria), which I am doing at Perimeter on Sunday. In addition to the company, the white hot chocolates were really good, especially since it is getting nice and cool at night (in the 50s) with highs in the upper 70s.

Today I was home and enjoyed playing on the trampoline with Sarah Wynn.

We just got back from family night at Johnny's Pizza, and Schaeffer is about to go to a special soccer training session and I am off to a Friday night mission's conferece desert at East Lanier. I guess that means that family night is over. We plan to reconvene tomorrow for some family time watching SEC football. :0)

By the way, Schaeffer's soccer team made dramatic improvements last night, winning a scrimmage 5-1. Schaeffer scored two really nice goals, too. Way to go Rangers! The picture below is Sarah Wynn trying to get into the soccer spirit. She is even sporting real shin guards. :0)

Sarah Wynn posed for a photo shoot in the den the other day. Here are some sample pics.

Weekend Update, Braces and Soccer Pic

This past weekend saw a flurry of activity. From soccer practice and a game, to dinner with friends in Dahlonega on Friday night, to dinner with friends in Buford on Saturday night, to a Taste of Perimeter last night, to... whew! But it has all been great, especially the time with friends. And Ole Miss, Georgia, the Colts and Giants all won, so we can't complain.

As far as historic moments are concerned: Ann Ferris gets spacers for her braces on Wednesday and then the braces next week! That will definitely be a post-worthy event. :0)

Also, here is a picture of Schaeffer's U12 soccer team. Go Red Rangers!

Church Code Language

Tim Hawkins is one of our favorite comedians. Here he talks about code language in the church. REALLY funny.

Sarah Wynn's Ballerina & Ann Ferris' Heart

Sarah Wynn was inspired by a ballerina sticker and drew her own. I think she is quite the ar-teest!

In other news, Ann Ferris had a check up last week with our family doctor, who was concerned that she might have a heart murmur. Thankfully, an appointment with a children's cardiovascular specialist revealed that everything is okay.

Now, Sarah Wynn's masterpiece...

Keller on the Pastor's Family

In this short video, Tim Keller, lead pastor for Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC, provides a dose of encouragement for pastors who struggle with being pulled like a wishbone between family and ministry. However, his advice is not just for pastors, but for any father and mother who is tempted to make an idol out of his or her non-domestic vocation. His comments are not justifying laziness. They are calling us to consider our ultimate priorities. I love what he says to pastors, "People are going to get mad at you if you do it right... and people are going to get angry at you anyway. So you might as well have a strong relationship with God and a strong family and have people mad at you, because they are going to be mad at you anyway."

Last Friday afternoon I took the kids to play in Windermere Park near our home. Here are some highlights.

First Soccer Game of the Season

Today was Schaeffer's first U12 soccer game of the season. We played a really tough team and fell in defeat. Nevertheless, our team, the Red Rangers, played hard and had fun. We also know what we need to work on, and have all season to improve. Here are some pics from the game. Since both teams had red jerseys, we had to wear t-shirts over ours.

A Wocket in My Pocket

Sarah Wynn presented Kristy with a tablet today. It says "There's a Wocket in My Pocket," by Dr. Seuss. Even though she is learning to read fairly well for a four year old, we did not know she could write her letters. Way to go, Sarah Wynn!

Good Night Prayer

Ann Ferris and Schaeffer are huge fans of Tim Hawkins. This is grade A, classic HILARIOUS!!! More like this to come. :0)

Scorpion in the House

In Mississippi, we had spiders in our house. Today, in our home in Georgia, we discovered a scorpion! Thankfully, it is the first, and we hope that it is the last we see inside. Schaeffer has found several under rocks in the back yard, so we know they are around. Anyway, here are two pictures of the little critter (only about one and a half inches long) after I had stunned him with a magazine. Nevertheless, he is still alive.
