Keller on the Pastor's Family

In this short video, Tim Keller, lead pastor for Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC, provides a dose of encouragement for pastors who struggle with being pulled like a wishbone between family and ministry. However, his advice is not just for pastors, but for any father and mother who is tempted to make an idol out of his or her non-domestic vocation. His comments are not justifying laziness. They are calling us to consider our ultimate priorities. I love what he says to pastors, "People are going to get mad at you if you do it right... and people are going to get angry at you anyway. So you might as well have a strong relationship with God and a strong family and have people mad at you, because they are going to be mad at you anyway."

Hi McKay....

You do not know me but I found your blog through Ginger Montgomery. Also, my older brother is Patrick Johnson. I just want you to know that my husband has really been struggling with his job. He is a veterinarian. I have prayed that God would really speak to us and that we would listen so that we could seek His will. Thank you so much for this post! The quote really hit home to me. I cannot wait for him to read it! Thanks so much.

Hey Catherine,

Patrick is your brother. Oh, I am SO SORRY! :0)

Glad the post was helpful. And please tell the Montgomery crew hello for me if you ever speak with them.
