Meet the Caston's new Diadophis Punctatus, better known as a Ringneck Snake. Yesterday, Schaeffer discovered him (or her?) in the driveway. He now lives in captivity, calling a small Tupperware canister home. It comes complete with a soil bed, leaves and a shell to hold his water. Although his diet consists mainly of worms, we're hoping to include a variety of insects soon. And though he is only about 5 inches long, he should grow to between 10 and 30 inches long as a mature adult. Soon we'll be posting a poll to take your vote on his new name.
Check back soon and cast your vote! Here is the little fella is in the driveway before the capture.
Here is a view inside his new Tupperware domicile.

I can NOT believe Kristy allows that in the house!!! Matt would freak.
Hey Bethany,
I think the longer you have a boy, the braver you get- out of sheer necessity! :0)

I've got to know what Kristy thinks about this! Snakes are no-nos at the O'Briens!
Elizabeth,
The snake is not an indoor pet. He lives on our screened in porch in a private Tupperware bowl with a lid poked with ventilation holes. We open it up and play with him now and then, but he likes to burrow in the dirt and sleep most of the time. As far as snakes go, he is quite tame. However, Schaeffer has begun to ask about getting a "bigger" one. :0) Like I said, when you have boys, you gotta be brave Tigger, or at least close your eyes a lot.
